  1. Thank you for such a great piece! I casually started looking for volcanoes for our drive with the kids around Queensland and found your post. Im not an expert, nor a hobbiest.
The world needs more people like you who take an interest in things and write them down. A modern day scribe.
    Thanks again.

    • Thank you for your kind words. I write mostly in an attempt (however poor) to figure out how things work. Sometimes it works out better than others. Lots of volcanic activity in Queensland. Should have been a most interesting trip. Hope you guys enjoyed your drive. As usual, we’re not experts on anything, merely hobbyists trying however poorly to describe what we think that we are seeing. Cheers –

  2. Where did the scoria flow at Kooroorinya Falls National reserve (65km south of Prairie QLD)come from do you know?

    • Wish I knew the local area better. From the maps, the closest to Kooroorinya Falls is something associated with the Nulla basalt province. It has the added attraction of being active most recently some 13,000 years ago. Mostly a long lava flow field, though it does have pyroclastic (cinder) cones which do produce scorias. I’ll keep poking around and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the fascinating question. Cheers –
